Classes and Workshops

The festival presents an extensive and inclusive set of classes and workshops to cover various aspects of Argentine Tango with Forever Tango stars Natalia and Juan Paulo, as well as Dale Ellison from Charleston SC and Connecticut's own Gem Duras. Snacks will be served at the breaks. Singles are welcome, we change partners.

Saturday, July 13

Boot Camp for Beginners
Milford Arts Council, Milford

2.5 hours of instruction with Dale and Gem packed into this Saturday of intensive Argentine Tango. Limited enrollment.

2:30 - 5:00 pm, with a short break

Argentine Tango basics, embrace and connection. Next phase, pivots, ochos and turns. Free leg movements, combinations with ganchos hooking legs together

The Essence of Tango
EdanSe Company and Ballroom, Enfield

10:00 am: What is Tango?

A comparison of various authentic tango orchestras Interpreting the music using essential patterns with romantic or rhythmic movements.

11:15 am: Dancing to Tango Vals

Understanding the vals rhythm as applied in tango, and interpreting various essential steps with tango vals music.

Day II: Nuevo Tango

Sunday, July 14
Dance Dimensions, Norwalk

Full day, 4.5 hours of intensive tango instruction with guest instructor Dale Ellison and Gem Duras with workshops focusing on nuevo tango idioms.

1:00 pm: Nuevo Style Linear Boleos

Use linear boles with the dynamics of alternative music, such as jazz and swing.

2:30 pm: Soltadas for Classic Tango and Doble Frente

Let go of the arms to turn to shadow dance, or create a new world of possibiltiies.

4:00 pm: Single Axis Turns with Soltadas

Combine the soltadas from the previous workshop, with single axis turns.

Forever Tango Dance Captains Natalia and Juan Paulo will present workshops addressing various aspects of tango in a fun environment. All tango dancers are welcome as well as beginners who have taken Dale and Gem's intensive workshops the previous weekend.

1:00 pm: Dissociation in the Embrace and Boleos

Exploring various ways of leading boleos using dissociation and the embrace

2:30 pm: Sacadas - Displacements

Generating sacada variations using distinct height levels

4:00 pm: Milonga Traspie

Natalia and Juan Paulo's favorite Milonga traspie patterns and variations.

Sunday, July 21
Dance Dimensions, Norwalk

Natalia and Juan Paulo will continue their teaching in Connecticut with three more workshops. All tango dancers with some experience are welcome.

1:00 pm: Dancing to vals

Natalia and Juan Paulo's favorite chain combinations

2:30 pm: Giros - Turns

Using centrifuge effects and different dynamics for controlled turns

4:00 pm: Stage Tango Elements and Sequences

Adding intention and attitude for thrilling stage tango sequences, like Forever Tango Stars!

Milongas are Argentine Tango Dance events where people spend the evening to socialize and dance tango.

The 2023 CT Tango Fest offers an exciting range of Milongas at some of Connecticut's most popular venues in Milford, Norwalk and Greenwich.

Opening milonga hosted by Tango Sueño Academy. Classic and Nuevo tango mix, refreshments and snacks included. DJ: Gem. Performance and Workshop:

7:00 - 8:00 pm: Milonga Lisa and Traspie:
An exploration of the two main milonga styles with fun steps for tight spaces.
8:00 - 11:00 pm: Milonga
